Begonia daunhitam is a newly discovered species native to Borneo. Daunhitam means ‘black leaf’ in Indonesian, and this plant lives up to its name. New growth comes out reddish, and quickly turns to a purpleish blue. As the plant matures it gets darker and the leaves elongate and become more corrugated. It flowers readily and is rather sensitive to changes in environmental conditions, and requires lower light low fertilizer care. The leaves should not be allowed to touch anything (including other plants), as they melt easily this way.
The last three photos are representative of the plants available. They are well rooted and shipped meticulously in their pots.
