Begonia daunhitam is a newly discovered species native to Borneo. Daunhitam means ‘black leaf’ in Indonesian, and this plant lives up to its name. New growth comes out reddish, and quickly turns to a purpleish blue. As the plant matures it gets darker and the leaves elongate and become more corrugated. It flowers readily and is rather sensitive to changes in environmental conditions, and requires lower light low fertilizer care. The leaves should not be allowed to touch anything (including other plants), as they melt easily this way.
Available plants are well rooted with at least three leaves. I recommend having this species shipped express and can only guarantee their health on arrival if they arrive within 3 days of being shipped.
