Begonia sp. Padang
A very strange and incredible species from Padang in West Sumatra. I’ve had this plant for probably five years or so, and this is the first time I’ve had enough material to propagate it in any quantity. While not amazingly difficult, it’s not easy, either. I have not seen this species offered elsewhere in the US as of my writing this (August 2023). It’s possible it’s an undescribed species, but I have not done a deep dive to search for a possible match. In any case, it’s a special one. Abaxial leaf surfaces are a deep crimson, as is the stem and tiny leaf hairs that cover the entire plant. It hasn’t bloomed for me, unfortunately. The tallest it’s reached is about 9″ although it seems possible it could grow slightly larger.
Available plants are well rooted in 2″ pots and will be shipped potted. The last photo is representative of the plants available.
