This colorful Melastome is from Ecuador and is the slowest of it’s type that I’ve come across, but is well worth the time! It can get rather large, at least 16″ but maybe bigger. This would take considerable time to accomplish, as most of my plants (grown in a variety of conditions), don’t grow more than an inch or two a year. It is a fairly easy plant to grow. The flowers only keep a few days, sometimes only one, so cherish them while you can. The leaves are nice reddish purple and stems are a brighter red, as are the undersides of the leaves. Each leaf is only about 1/8-1/4 of an inch, and they generally stay this size (an odd leaf might reach 1/2 inch).
The plants available are similar to the one pictured, about 3″ tall with lots of leaves.
